Certification Process

Step 1: Eligibility

The EnviroCertified Program is designed to address dangerous waste generated by small businesses. To be eligible you must:

  • Be located in Spokane County.
  • Be a “Small Quantity Generator” (SQG) of dangerous waste. SQGs generate less than 220 pounds per month, or about 27 gallons (half a drum) of dangerous waste per month, and accumulate no more than 2,200 pounds (about 5 drums) of dangerous waste on site at any time. NOTE: When recycled, some materials, such as oil and antifreeze are not counted when determining your generator status. This increases your chances of being a conditionally exempt SQG. For more information on dangerous waste generator status and requirements, see Washington Administrative Code 173-303-070 section (8) or Department of Ecology’s Hazardous Waste & Toxics Reduction website.
  • Set a goal to reduce waste, eliminate dangerous materials, and/or put in place other environmentally sustainable business improvements.
  • Manage all dangerous waste properly.

Step 2: Schedule a Free, On-site Consultation

Email pollutionprevention@srhd.org or call 509.324.1560 at extension 3 to schedule a visit with a Pollution Prevention Assistance Specialist.

Their goal is to help assure that you are in compliance with applicable regulations. They will also provide technical assistance and suggest resources that can strengthen your business.

Convenient! They come to your business at a mutually agreed upon day and time. They walk through the facility and operations to see how you are doing things now and if your practices could be improved. They are sensitive to your staff and customer service needs – after all, your priority is running your business.

Knowledgeable! The Pollution Prevention Assistance representative has visited many businesses and has seen a variety of successful practices implemented – they can share examples with you or put you directly in touch with people in these businesses.

Friendly! They want you to succeed!

Step 3: Complete Your Application

  • Complete the application (found on Envirocertified Applications tab) specific to your type of business
